Straight-line Wire Drawing Machine vs. Wet Type Wire Drawing Machine

In the field of metal wire processing, wire drawing machines play a pivotal role in reducing wire diameter, improving surface quality, and enhancing mechanical properties. Among the various types of wire drawing equipment, straight-line wire drawing machines and Wet Type wire drawing machines are widely used in different industrial scenarios due to their unique structural designs and performance characteristics. This article will delve into their core differences, advantages, disadvantages, and application scope to help industry professionals make more informed equipment selection decisions.

Straight-line Wire Drawing Machine
This machine adopts a continuous drawing structure with multiple independently driven towers (drums). The wire passes through a series of drawing dies in sequence, and each die is matched with a dedicated tower wheel. Each tower wheel is driven by a separate motor (usually DC or AC frequency conversion motor) and coordinated by a precision PLC control system to adjust the speed in real time. The speed of the subsequent tower wheel is slightly higher than the previous one, matching the elongation coefficient of the wire, realizing “zero-tension” or low-tension drawing without intermediate guide wheels. The wire travels in a straight line between the two towers, avoiding torsion and small-radius bending<superscript:2superscript:6superscript:10.

Wet Type Wire Drawing Machine

As the name suggests, its core drawing components (drawing dies, drums) are immersed in a water tank filled with cooling and lubricating fluid. The machine is driven by a single high-power main motor to pull the wire through multiple dies arranged in the tank, and a small-power motor is responsible for take-up. During the drawing process, the wire, dies, and drums are fully sprayed or soaked in the lubricating fluid, which achieves simultaneous cooling and lubrication. The drums are usually arranged in a tower shape, and the wire is wound around the drums several times to increase friction and provide sufficient drawing force

Straight-line Wire Drawing Machine
Advantages

- High production efficiency

- Excellent wire quality

- Strong adaptability

- Low wear rate

Disadvantages

- High initial investment

- Limited cooling effect

- Narrow application range for fine wires

Wet Type Wire Drawing Machine

Advantages

- Excellent cooling and lubrication performance

- High cost-effectiveness

- Compact structure with small floor space

- Superior surface quality of fine wires

Disadvantages

- Low energy efficiency

- Narrow applicable wire gauge range

- Relatively low production efficiency

Straight-line wire drawing machines and Wet Type wire drawing machines have their own advantages and are tailored to different production scenarios. The straight-line type excels in high efficiency, large gauge, and high strength, making it the first choice for large-scale, high-end wire production; the Wet type is cost-effective with excellent cooling and lubrication, suitable for fine wire processing with limited investment. When selecting equipment, enterprises should comprehensively consider factors such as production scale, product specifications, quality requirements, and budget to maximize production efficiency and product competitiveness.
